i know that in versus each player has different weapons than they did in mercs but how does it differ which different weapons do they have?

VERY good question. I am not so sure myself, but since the handgun and shot best suits Chris, they gave it to him. If you look at it this way, he is just like Leon in Mercenaries in RE4. Sheva is a bit obvious she was a bit of an Ada type. The Tribal was a but hit! It was like having Krauser as a female with that Long Bow. BSAA Jill was kind of a normal choice of weapons, while her Battle Suit was a bit obvious with the machine gun but sniper took me by surprise, but she does look good holding a sniper that matches her suit. Wesker, as usual... has the most strongest weapons.

But Versus Mode is another way to go on deciding which weapon you would like to use. You can find the shotgun, magnum, rocket launcher or sniper is all levels in order to destroy your enemy.
